It is a little difficult to sit through this movie and not feel bad at the lows that some actors sink to. The actor in question is Govinda and one finds it difficult to understand cannot why he would do a film like that. And if he does, one would expect to see a lot more interest from his side in the goings on in the movies. Govinda, who is known to be one of the most versatile comedians that we have seen in Hindi films, is so out of sync in this movie. There is absolutely no connect that is happening. Obviously, this disconnect is something that is conveyed to the audiences within a few reels of the movie itself. The movie seems old and tired, quite like the derelict bus that is a part of the film's cast. In fact, even the rest of the cast seems to be infected by the same disease.
The film's story, in brief, is about Deepak (Govinda), a simple, truthful man, who has been forced to change jobs because of his refusal to become a part of the corrupt system. He has been helping his father (Om Puri) fight his legal battle against the school where he worked for so many years to give him his provident fund and pension. The father wins the case and the school is ordered to give him part of the school property if it has no funds to pay the pension and provident fund. The school gives Deepak's father a bus and our hero decides to run the bus and earn his living, much to chagrin of his two sisters and their husbands, all of who have been feeding on Deepak and his father. His friend, Sundar (Rajpal Yadav), helps him with some money as investment and the duo starts a company called Chal Chala Chal Transport. The film is replete with Deepak's tirade against the corrupt system, which gets mechanical and monotonous after a while.
The worst thing about this film is that even though it is meant to be a comedy, it is not funny. Not if you call instances of reels being changed, and scenes jumping from one to the other, funny. Nobody really seems to care about the movie, not the director, the producer, the editor, and nor the actors. The film, which is directed by TK Rajeev Kumar, has no proper story, or screenplay in place and kudos to the director afor managing to pull the film through in this vein for more than two and a half hours.
It seems a shame to see actors like Om Puri, Govinda and Rajpal Yadav figuring in a movie like this. They are totally wasted in this movie. As for the rest of the cast, which includes Reema Sen, Asrani and Manoj Joshi, among others, even they make their way mechanically through the movie. The music of the movie by Lalit Sen is hardly anything to talk about, quite in keeping with the general tone of the movie and all those who are associated with it.
Chal Chala Chal fails because it lacks originality and has been shoddily made. The presence of a Govinda or a Om Puri cannot lift a bad film and make it good in the absence of a proper script or screenplay. In fact, no actor can do that as the director of Chal Chala Chal may have realized to his peril.
