No Problem (2010) - Movie Review

Cast: Anil Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Kangana Ranaut
Director: Anees Bazmee

Director Anees Bazmee seems to be following in the footsteps of comedy king David Dhawan by making more and more comedies. Though he earned fame for his comedies like 'Singh is Kinng', 'Welcome' and 'No Entry' not in the distant past, this time round his 'No Problem' isn't any way close to them. In fact, it's far from a laughter riot; it's full of intrigues. We wonder if we could count it among the comedies that help de-stress a viewer.

In the movie, Zandulal played by Paresh Rawal lives in a South African village with a blonde and their three children, besides an African American cook. Yash Ambani played by Sanjay Dutt and Raj Ambani played by Akshaye Khanna stay with Zandu as guests because they saved Zandulal from a gorilla. But being conmen, they rob the local bank that Zandulal manages, and flee to Durban. Zandulal follows them after seeking his bank chairman's permission. Even though Zandulal is giving them the chase, Raj falls for Sanjana played by Kangana Ranaut. Incidentally, Sanjana is the sister of Kajal played by Sushmita Sen who is married to police inspector Arjun played by Anil Kapoor.

Anil who is responsible for nabbing the criminals fails completely in discharging his duty. His wife Sushmita in bouts of personality disorder is torn between loving or killing him. He realizes that her husband isn't a hero but a complete zero. Even Anil' father-in-law played by Shakti Kapoor as police commissioner gets upset with Anil as the latter fails in solving any criminal case. Paresh reaches at the Raj-Sanjana betrothal and threatens that he would reveal Kangna's family secret to Raj if the loot money isn't returned to bank.

Raj and Yash have spent all the money they robbed from the bank and promise Zandulal to anyhow recover the money. Finally, all the three hatch a plan to rob yet again to pay off the loot from the bank robbery. In the meantime, gangster Marcos played by Suneil Shetty and Sophia played by Neetu Chandra, have an eye on the diamonds that were in the safe Raj and Yash looted! He is ready to do anything to get the diamonds worth millions looted from the museum. The police involve both Sanjay and Akshaye in the loot and murder cases.

Alas, 'No Problem' is Anees' cheap comedy as compared to his good ones. One wonders if there is any heroic character in the entire move; everyone seems to be a villain. Akshaye Khanna's dialogues are too cheap to repeat here. As said earlier, director Anees hasn't bothered to give the story and the screenplay as much attention as in his previous movies. So, the characters don't connect with each other though they are added without any logic. However, performance-wise, he succeeds in his characters playing their assigned roles.

Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna do entertain by their comic, Paresh Rawal, as usual, gives his best. However, there isn't much scope for the two females -Sushmita Sen and Kangna Ranaut - to do in the movie. They are a kind of wasted. While Sushmita shines, Kangana Ranaut doesn't succeed in her makeover role. On the music front also, the movie makes no impact though three eminent musicians comprising Sajid Wajid, Pritam, Anand Raj Anand lend their compositions. Alas, there is no blockbuster song in 'No Problem' as in Anees' previous movies.
